End of year

This year I have gradually improved on my academic work in all areas. Ive gone from stanine six and sevens from last year to stanine nines in all my work. This year I have improved on my fitness as well. I take part in all inter class sports and try my best to get into inter-intermediate sports. I made the teams of II rugby and II volleyball. In athletics I ran 1500 meters non-stop. I wasn’t very fast but pushed myself and didn’t stop running! I continued my guitar career throughout this year as well as last year. I also joined the rock band late this year and enjoyed every moment. I stayed in the kapahaka group for another year and we went to Hauraki and won four trophy’s but unfortunately at tainui regional s we only won 2nd for originality. I have enjoyed my two years at TA intermediate and I am now ready for the various challenges that come with college.

Week 3 Term 4

this week i learned how to find the rule that makes a pattern. for example: find the rule to find the number of matchsticks (M) by the pattern number (n). l=   l=l=l   l=l=l=l so the rule would be:     M=nx4-1. this means the pattern number multiplied by four plus one equals the number of matchsticks. so pattern number 1=   1×4-1=3 l= three matchsticks. pattern 2=   2×4-1=7 l=l=l seven matchsticks.

Week 9 Term 3

This week  I have learned how to find a vector of an object. To find the vector of an object you count the number of moves the shape has moved horizontally and then vertically. This is pretty much your vector but you write it in order that the horizontal number comes first followed by the vertical number. i.e. (2,-8) could be a vector. If the shape has moved left or down in this sequence then you put a – before the number. I also learned how to find axes of symmetry. To find axes of symmetry you move the shape clockwise ,or counter clockwise, it doesn’t matter and see how many times it can be moved so that it is back to its original shape. I also learned how to find the order of rotational symmetry. To find the order of rotational symmetry you rotate the shape and count how many times its goes back to its original shape. Its just like finding axes of symmetry. I also learned how to find the total order of symmetry. To find the total order of symmetry you find the lines of symmetry and the order of rotational symmetry and add them together. For example. A pentagon has 5 lines of symmetry and a order of rotational symmetry total of 5 so the total is 10.

Week 8 Term 3

This week I learned how to find the sum of the interior angles of a polygon. To find them you subtract 2 from the number of sides of the polygon and then multiply that by 180 degrees and that is the sum that all the interior angles should add up to. For example. Find the sum of a pentagon. A pentagon has 5 sides so 5-2=3 so 3×180=540. A common formula of this would be (n-2)x180. N being the number of sides of the polygon.

Week 7 Term 3

This week I learned how to show not tell. Telling is like saying, The girls was embarrassed. Showing is like saying, Her palms raged with sweat, Cheeks glowing a bright pink. Its pretty much putting a picture in the readers head in stead of just telling them whats happening. In maths I learned how to find the unknown angles in quadrilaterals (A shape with 4 sides). In a quadrilateral all the angles must add up to 360 degrees. So if there was a quadrilateral with angles 85, 60 a right angle and ?. The unknown angle would be 125 because 125+85+60+90 =360. Sometimes it will give you the exterior angle and there will be more than one unknown angle. So if a quadrilateral had angles 72, a, b and 65 and it had exterior angles 42 and 95 then angles a and b would be 138 and 85 so 138+85+65+72=360.

week 6 term 3

this week i leaned how to find the unknown angle of a triangle. All the angles of a triangle must all add up to 180 degrees so you add the other 2 angles together and find the remaining amount needed to make 180. to find the exterior angle you add the two opp angles that aren’t touching the exterior angle (outside angle) together and the sum of that is the ext angle.

Week 5 Term 3

This week I learned how to find the volume, capacity and mass of an object. To find the volume of an object you find the area of one of the sides and then multiply by the other measurement. To find the capacity of an object you just find the volumeand convert it. To convert follow this table. 1cm=1ml, 1000cm=1L and 1m=1kl. To find the mass of an object and its insides you have to find the capacity and then convert. To convert follow this table 1L=1kg and 1ml=1g.

Week 4 term 3

This week I have remembered how to find the area of a shape. For rectangles and squares its base x height. You might see that formula explained as (bxh). For triangles its base x height divied it by 2 and to find the area of a circle its Radius pi x radius. You may see that formula as (r,pi.xr) for example. If the radius of a circle is 9cm then you will go, 9 pi x 9 which equals 254.5 sq cm. I have also learned how to write a two sided (discussion) argument. The structure should go. An introduction, 2-3 reasons for one side (the side you support) and then 2-3 reasons for the other side and a conclusion that summarises all the reasons and a little of your opinion. We studied pubertal change this week. An interesting thing I learned was that boys do not have to be thinking about the opposite sex to get errections but you could be just thinking about maths or politics, it just happens. In science I learned the fastest way to mix a disprin into a drink is to crush it and agitate the glass.

Science Fair

For my Science Fair project I studied the relationship of salt heat and running water and the amount of time it takes to melt ice. My hypothesis was that the salt would melt the ice the fastest because of the levels of sodium and chloride in salt. Turns out the running water method was much faster than the salt method smashing the salts average by more than three minutes.

Week 6 Term 2

This week I have  learned how to convert decimals fractions and percentage’s. For example. 0.23 would be 23/100 as a fraction and 23% as a percentage. Another example. 0.4 would be 4/10 or simplify to 2/5 as a fraction and 40% as a percentage. I did some more revision on topic sentence’s and how to write a report.  My goal for next week is to keep up to date with all given tasks and complete to the best of my ability.
